Keion White, 49ers Player, Suffers Gunshot Wound in San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman, Keion White, was the victim of a shooting in San Francisco early Monday morning, suffering a gunshot wound to the ankle. According to the team, White underwent successful surgery on Monday afternoon. His injuries are not considered potentially career-threatening. The 49ers have stated that they will provide more updates when appropriate. San Francisco police responded to a shooting at a business on the 1700 block of Mission Street around 4:06 a.m. local time and found a victim with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers provided aid and called paramedics, indicating that the victim was transported to a hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries.

“A preliminary investigation revealed a verbal discussion between two groups inside a business,” stated the San Francisco Police Department. “The victim was injured when an unknown suspect fired.”

No arrests have been made in what is considered an open and active investigation by the San Francisco Police Department’s Strategic Investigations Unit.

On Sunday, White posted photos and videos on his Instagram account where he was seen attending Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, where he witnessed the defeat of his former team, the Patriots, against the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers acquired him via a trade on October 29, sending a 2026 sixth-round pick to New England in exchange for White and a 2026 seventh-round pick. Including the playoffs, he participated in 11 games for San Francisco, starting in two, and recorded 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and three tackles for loss, playing as a defensive end and defensive tackle. White is the second 49ers player to be shot in San Francisco in the last 18 months. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt on August 31, 2024. A teenager is awaiting trial in juvenile court in that case. Pearsall missed the first six games of his rookie season due to injury, but recovered fully and played in 11 games that season.
