Curry, Butler, and Green: Key Absences in the Warriors’ Loss to the Heat

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry did not participate in Wednesday night’s loss to the Miami Heat due to ankle discomfort. The game ended with a score of 110-96. In addition to Curry, other prominent figures on the team, such as Jimmy Butler (back) and Draymond Green (illness), were also absent for the game. Curry initially twisted his right ankle last Friday, during a 49-point performance in San Antonio, and then re-twisted it during the first half of Tuesday night’s loss in Orlando.

Curry stated that he wanted to see how his ankle responded after a plane trip and some rest. The Warriors ruled him out six hours before the start of the game against the Heat.

The team expects Curry to return on Friday night against the Portland Trail Blazers in San Francisco. Butler is dealing with the same lower back discomfort that forced him to miss a game in Sacramento earlier this season. Wednesday marked his second trip back to Miami since the Heat traded him to the Warriors in February. Substitute guard Buddy Hield, who was also ill, played 31 minutes and scored 18 points after initially being listed as questionable. The Warriors rested veteran center Al Horford on the second night of a back-to-back. Fifth-year forward Jonathan Kuminga remains out with knee tendinitis. This game marks the end of a grueling road trip for the Warriors. They have played a record 17 games in the first 29 days of the season, in 12 different cities, including five back-to-back games, the most in the NBA. Their next five games will be at home.
