Injury War: Warriors Fall to Timberwolves
The Golden State Warriors continue their decline in the Western Conference, suffering another defeat and accumulating a series of injuries that complicate their outlook. In their last game, they fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves with a score of 127-117, thus adding their fourth consecutive loss. The Warriors’ situation worsens with the recent wave of injuries that affected several key players. Draymond Green was ruled out minutes before the game due to lower back discomfort. Al Horford left the game five minutes in due to a right calf injury. Seth Curry retired in the second quarter with a left adductor injury, and Quinten Post suffered a left ankle sprain. In addition to these losses, the absences of their two best players are added, who have been out for more than a month. Jimmy Butler will miss the rest of the season due to an ACL injury, and Stephen Curry has been out of action since January 30 due to problems in his right knee. Curry’s absence was especially noticeable, as this was his sixteenth consecutive game out. In this period, the Warriors have a 5-11 record, which has relegated them to a 32-34 position, two games behind the LA Clippers in the fight for the eighth place in the Western Conference. Although Green’s injury doesn’t seem serious, as he was seen in the locker room after the game, there is no official information on the severity of Post and Curry’s injuries. Kerr called Horford’s injury a “strain” and anticipated that he would be out for a while. With the calf injury, we are not going to rush his return. This series of injuries comes at a crucial moment for the Warriors, who will begin a six-game road trip on Sunday in New York against the Knicks. They will also play in Boston, Detroit, and Atlanta, which could put their position at risk and cause them to fall below the Portland Trail Blazers. Kristaps Porzingis was a bright spot for the Warriors. In his fourth game with the team, he increased his playing time to 22 minutes and scored 20 points, showing progress with his recent health issues. However, the Warriors were outplayed by the Timberwolves, falling behind by 25 points, and couldn’t get closer than nine in a tepid comeback in the second half. Anthony Edwards, Timberwolves star, scored 42 points, despite doubts about his participation due to discomfort in his right knee. Edwards celebrated his performance in front of the Warriors’ bench. Edwards touched his knee at the end of the match, but seemed to be fine afterwards, even training outside the visiting locker room with a sleeve on his right leg.We are going through a difficult time. We are as beaten up as any team I can remember.
Steve Kerr, Warriors Coach
I’m fine.
Anthony Edwards
