Frank Vogel Joins Mavericks as Lead Assistant

The Dallas Mavericks are close to finalizing a deal for Frank Vogel to join the team as a lead assistant coach. The news comes after the announcement of the departure of Sean Sweeney, who will join the San Antonio Spurs. Jason Kidd, head coach of the Mavericks, had already had Vogel as an advisor last season. Both coincided in the Lakers, where Kidd was an assistant and Vogel led the team to the championship in the 2019-20 season. Vogel, 52, was fired by the Phoenix Suns in May 2024 after a single season in which the team had a 49-33 record. He had signed a five-year, $31 million contract with Phoenix in June 2023. In addition to the Lakers and the Suns, Vogel also coached the Orlando Magic (two seasons) and the Indiana Pacers (six seasons). His overall record as a coach is 479-422. In another move, God Shammgod, Mavericks player development coach, has agreed to join the Magic as an assistant coach.
