Vlade Divac, former NBA player, Surgically Treated After Accident

Podgorica, Montenegro – Former NBA center Vlade Divac underwent emergency surgery after suffering a hip fracture. The incident occurred after Divac fell from his motorcycle in Montenegro, according to medical sources on Friday. The accident took place on Thursday on a road near the Montenegrin coast of the Adriatic Sea. Hospital doctors indicated that Divac suffered a fracture and had a hip prosthesis implanted.

“During the day, a surgical procedure was carried out,” stated Ljubica Mitrovic, hospital spokesperson in the city of Risan. “She is in stable general and physical condition and is under careful supervision by medical staff.”

The Serbian player, 7 feet 1 inch tall, started and concluded his 16-year NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played for the Charlotte Hornets and the Sacramento Kings, being selected for the All-Star in 2001. Divac, who later served as general manager of the Kings, was one of the first European players to join the NBA when he arrived at the Lakers in 1989. At 57 years old, Divac was also the first player born and trained outside the United States to play more than 1,000 games in the NBA. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. In addition, Divac served two terms as head of the Serbian Olympic Committee.
