The Detroit Pistons, leaders of the Eastern Conference, extended their winning streak to nine games, the longest since the 2007-08 season, after defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 114-105 on Friday night. The Pistons (11-2) achieved this victory despite significant absences.

Key Absences in the Detroit Team

  • All-NBA guard Cade Cunningham absent for the second consecutive game due to a hip contusion suffered on Monday.
  • Jalen Duren (ankle), Tobias Harris (ankle), and Ausar Thompson (ankle) also out of the game.
Jaden Ivey has not yet debuted this season, recovering from a knee surgery performed in the preseason. Isaiah Stewart returned after missing three games due to a sprained ankle, recording 14 points and seven rebounds in 23 minutes. The Pistons held the 76ers to 15 points in the final quarter, after being down by 12 in the third. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff highlighted the team’s seriousness in the NBA Cup.

It doesn’t surprise me. They have an aggressiveness. That’s the fun part of our group. They like it when it gets difficult. They like it when it gets complicated and ugly. We like to take people there. We like to push people’s buttons and see how they respond.

Daniss Jenkins, on a two-way contract, hit a three-pointer at the buzzer from beyond half-court to end the third quarter, bringing the Pistons closer on the scoreboard. This three-pointer was one of the 17 three-pointers scored by the team, their highest amount of the season, with a success rate of over 41%. Jenkins finished with 19 points and eight assists in 35 minutes, starring in a duel with All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey (31 points, seven rebounds). The 76ers also suffered the absences of Joel Embiid (right knee discomfort) and Paul George, who continues to recover from left knee surgery. Jenkins also scored a three-pointer from the corner that forced overtime in Monday’s game against the Washington Wizards. The player scored 24 points on Monday and 18 points and 12 assists on Wednesday against Chicago.

I’m not going to lie. I can’t tell you my secret, but I’ve really been shooting that shot. We’re all aggressive dogs, aggressive guys.

Daniss Jenkins
The Pistons will seek their tenth consecutive victory on Monday at home against the Indiana Pacers.
