Spurs Rookie Dylan Harper Undergoes Thumb Surgery
SAN ANTONIO – [Spurs](https://www.espn.com/nba/team/_/name/sa/san-antonio-spurs) rookie Dylan Harper underwent surgery to repair a partially torn collateral ligament in his left thumb. The injury occurred Wednesday during a preseason workout.
By opting for surgery quickly, Harper could be ready for the start of the regular season. The Spurs will begin their schedule against Dallas on October 22.
Harper, the number 2 pick in this year’s draft, averaged 16 points in two games in the Las Vegas summer league for the Spurs in July. Before entering the draft, he averaged 19.4 points in his only college season at Rutgers.
He is expected to join the last two NBA Rookie of the Year candidates, Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, in San Antonio’s rotation this season.
The Spurs reported that Harper’s condition will be updated as needed.
