Dylan Harper, Spurs Rookie, Undergoes Surgery
The San Antonio Spurs rookie, Dylan Harper, underwent surgery to repair a partially torn collateral ligament in his left thumb. The injury occurred on Wednesday during a preseason practice.
The decision to undergo surgery quickly could allow Harper to be ready for the start of the regular season. The Spurs will begin their schedule facing Dallas on October 22.
Harper, selected at the number 2 pick in this year’s draft, averaged 16 points in two games of the Las Vegas summer league with the Spurs in July. Before entering the draft, he averaged 19.4 points in his only college season at Rutgers.
Harper is expected to join Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, the two previous NBA Rookie of the Year award winners, in San Antonio’s rotation this season.
The Spurs reported that Harper’s condition will be updated as needed.
