Tragedy Strikes Naz Reid: Timberwolves Player’s Sister Dies in Shooting
A regrettable piece of news has shocked the basketball world. Toraya Reid, sister of Minnesota Timberwolves player Naz Reid, lost her life in a shooting that occurred this weekend at an apartment complex in New Jersey. Authorities have charged her boyfriend with murder.
Police responded to a call about shots fired at the Paragon complex in Jackson around 11 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, they found 28-year-old Toraya Reid dead near the complex exit. The investigation revealed that she had been shot multiple times, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.
Shaquille Green, 29 years old and a resident of Jackson, was seen fleeing the scene and was apprehended shortly after. In addition to the murder charge, Green faces weapons-related charges.
Billhimer confirmed that Toraya Reid and Shaquille Green were in a romantic relationship. Green remains in custody and it is unknown if he has hired a lawyer.
Naz Reid, 25, is preparing for his seventh season with the Timberwolves and recently signed a five-year contract with the team. The player was recognized as the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in the 2023-24 season.
In a social media post, Reid’s former teammate, Karl-Anthony Towns, expressed his deep sorrow at the tragic news.Naz Reid’s representatives did not issue a comment at the time of publication.
Jackson, where the incident occurred, is located in southern New Jersey, about 50 kilometers northeast of Philadelphia.
