Rockets trade Cam Whitmore to Wizards for NBA draft picks

The Houston Rockets have agreed to trade Cam Whitmore to the Washington Wizards in exchange for two second-round picks, according to sources from Alofoke Deportes.

The Rockets selected Whitmore with the number 20 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, but it cost them to give the talented player significant playing time. This deal gives Whitmore, who turns 21 this week, the opportunity to have a more important role on a rebuilding Wizards team. The trade also brings Whitmore, a Maryland native, closer to home.

The Rockets worked with Whitmore and his representatives from WME Basketball over the last few weeks to find him a new team. Houston executives had several offers on the table for Whitmore, but they wanted him to have a real opportunity to thrive in his career.

Whitmore, a 6-foot-7 forward, averaged 10.8 points in two years at Houston. Last season he scored 0.46 points per touch, the fourth best among players who recorded 1,000 touches, according to Alofoke Deportes data.
