P.J. Washington Secures His Future with the Mavericks
Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington has agreed to a four-year, $90 million contract extension with the franchise, according to his agent Kevin Bradbury of Lift Sports Management.
With this agreement, Washington, who had one year remaining on his contract for $14.1 million, cannot be traded during the 2025-26 season.
This extension secures Washington’s stay in Dallas until the 2029-30 season, meaning the Mavericks have reached agreements with all key members of their roster eligible for new negotiations this offseason, including Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford, both with three-year extensions.
Washington, who was selected with the 12th pick in the 2019 draft, spent his first four and a half seasons in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets.
He joined the Mavericks in February 2024, during the NBA trade deadline, and played a crucial role in the team’s successful run to the Finals that season, starting in all 22 playoff games of 2024.
In the 2024-25 season, the 27-year-old player averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, 1.1 steals, and shooting percentages of 45.3% from the field and 38.1% on three-pointers.
Washington was one of eight players who averaged at least one steal and one block last season, among those who played at least 50 games, and recorded 14 double-doubles after having accumulated 10 in the previous three years. He is preparing for his seventh NBA season, which will begin in October.
The Mavericks are facing next season with, possibly, the best offensive front in the league, led by Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, Dereck Lively II, Washington, and Gafford.
