Porzingis, questionable for Game 2 against the Knicks

Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis has been listed as probable for Wednesday’s Game 2 against the New York Knicks due to an illness unrelated to COVID.

Porzingis missed the second half of the Knicks’ 108-105 victory on Monday due to illness. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla suggested it could be related to the virus that forced Porzingis to miss eight games between February and March.

“Since he’s been back, I think he’s been dealing with this and battling through it, pushing through it. And I think it was too much for him in that game,” Mazzulla said Tuesday. “He’s been working through it since he’s been back and has done a great job being available, and yesterday was tough for him to continue. So we’ll see how he handles it.”

When Porzingis returned from the upper respiratory illness in March, he played very well, averaging 24.4 points and 59% shooting in his first five games. However, he has struggled offensively so far in the postseason, with 32% shooting overall, including 2 of 17 from three-pointers in six games.

Celtics forward Sam Hauser, who sprained his right ankle in the Game 1 loss, did not practice and has been listed as questionable for Game 2.
