Pistons’ Jaden Ivey to Miss Four Weeks with Injury
The return of Jaden Ivey, guard for the Detroit Pistons, has been affected, as he will be out of the courts for the next four weeks due to surgery on his right knee, according to the team’s announcement this Thursday. Ivey, who missed the last 49 games of last season due to a left fibula injury, was only able to participate in one preseason game before discomfort issues arose.Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff explained that the injury was not the result of a specific play, but rather a progressive development. Ivey, selected fifth overall in the 2022 draft, was having a promising season last year before suffering a collision with Cole Anthony, Magic guard, on New Year’s Day. At the time, he was averaging 17.6 points and 41% three-point shooting, both career highs. In the absence of Ivey, the Pistons acquired veteran guard Dennis Schroder to reinforce the backup point guard position last season. Bickerstaff is confident that Marcus Sasser and Daniss Jenkins can fill the void during this absence. In addition, Ausar Thompson has taken on more responsibility in training camp as the primary facilitator when Cade Cunningham, All-NBA guard, goes to the bench. As for Ivey, it could be 10 months before he returns to action in the regular season, and he could be eligible for a contract extension if the team and he reach an agreement before the October 20 deadline. The Pistons will be cautious with his recovery, given the consecutive injuries suffered by one of the fastest players in the league. It was something that developed during his work. Obviously, since he returned, but also in training camp, he began to feel something.

The team prioritizes Ivey’s health and well-being, ensuring a full recovery before his return to the court. Our priority is to do what’s right for our players and never put them in a position where we feel we have to rush them back. We know how that can impact them mentally, physically, and also in the long term.
