Former NBA player Paul Pierce was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence on a Los Angeles freeway.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to a car accident on the northbound lanes of Highway 101. Upon reopening the lanes, they found Pierce asleep at the wheel of a Range Rover.

According to a press release, officers observed signs of alcohol impairment and proceeded to conduct a DUI investigation.

Pierce was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. The case will be reviewed by the Los Angeles city attorney.

On Thursday, Pierce shared on his Instagram account that he had fallen asleep while in a traffic jam.
