LOS ANGELES – Former NBA player Paul Pierce was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol on a Los Angeles highway, after state police found him asleep at the wheel. California Highway Patrol officers responded around 10:40 p.m. to an unrelated car accident involving multiple vehicles in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, forcing the closure of four of the six lanes for investigation, according to a press release from the agency. When the lanes reopened about an hour later, they found a Range Rover SUV stopped on the road, south of the accident. Officers saw Pierce asleep at the wheel and “noticed signs of alcohol impairment,” so they conducted a DUI investigation, according to the press release. He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, which will be reviewed by the Los Angeles city attorney.
