NBA Strengthens Measures Against Fan Misbehavior

The NBA has issued a reminder to all its teams to prioritize the management of inappropriate fan behavior during the current season’s games. In a memo sent to the 30 franchises, the league urged a “consistent and vigilant application of the NBA Fan Code of Conduct… in order to deter and address fan misconduct at NBA games and events.” The behavior of fans has been a topic of debate in the sports world. Last season, notable incidents were recorded in the NBA, such as the expulsion of some fans in Dallas for their reactions after the team’s decision to trade Luka Doncic. Also, the Minnesota Timberwolves ejected a fan from a playoff game for racist comments directed at Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors. The NBA, in its memo, instructed teams that arena staff “must be trained to identify behavior that violates NBA rules and respond proactively.” The league, like many others, has a video detailing the code of conduct for fans, which is played in each arena before each game.

It is essential that teams and arenas vigorously enforce the Code of Conduct and do not tolerate any misconduct that affects our players, fans, or disrupts the game.
