The 2026 NBA Draft: Early Projections and Emerging Talent
The college basketball season is just beginning, but the excitement for the 2026 NBA draft is already in full swing. A group of promising freshmen leads the class, showing a rapid rise. This is a good time to present our first mock draft of the season. NBA executives have had the opportunity to evaluate prospects in key November games, including the Champions Classic and the Players Era championship in Las Vegas. This draft is shaping up to be one of the strongest in recent memory, with high-level players at the top and great depth in the first round. It’s important to remember that these projections are subject to change. They are based on conversations with NBA executives and scouts, and on my own evaluation. The draft order was determined using ESPN’s BPI rankings as of November 14th.First Round of the Draft
- 1. Brooklyn Nets
Darryn Peterson, PG/SG, Kansas
With averages of 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in two games, Peterson has proven his worth. His ability to score at multiple levels, his physical qualities, and his defensive tenacity place him among the most complete freshman guards. Peterson’s possible absence due to a hamstring injury could open the door for other prospects. The Nets urgently need a star to lead their team, and Peterson could be the solution.- 2. Washington Wizards
AJ Dybantsa, SF, BYU
Dybantsa has shown his scoring potential, although he still needs to improve his consistency. His impressive physique gives him great potential as a scorer and defender. The Wizards are looking for a young star to build their offense around, and Dybantsa could bring the dynamism they lack.
- 3. Utah Jazz
Cameron Boozer, PF/C, Duke
Boozer is a complete player who contributes beyond points, which could compensate for his lack of athletic explosiveness. His consistent performance keeps him in the conversation at the top of the draft. The Jazz, who have had a good start to the season, could need Boozer as a central piece.- 4. Indiana Pacers
Nate Ament, SF/PF, Tennessee
Ament has been productive against lower-level opponents. His physique and skills suggest great potential. The Pacers, with injury problems, could benefit from Ament.
- 5. Atlanta Hawks (via New Orleans)
Caleb Wilson, PF/C, North Carolina
Wilson has shown a notable improvement, impressing NBA teams with his energy and impact in the paint. The challenge is to improve his jump shot. The Hawks would benefit from this selection.- 6. Sacramento Kings
Mikel Brown Jr., PG, Louisville
Brown showcased his potential with a standout performance against Kentucky. His ability to shoot from distance and create plays for his teammates makes him a promising prospect. The Kings, who need a playmaker, could consider Brown.
- 7. Charlotte Hornets
Chris Cenac Jr., PF/C, Houston
Cenac has shown stability and adapts well to his role in Houston. His potential for improvement is significant, especially in attack. His mobility could be an asset for the Hornets.- 8. Dallas Mavericks
Koa Peat, PF/C, Arizona
Peat has left a good impression with his game, demonstrating his importance to Arizona. If he develops his three-point shot, he could have a good future in the NBA. The Mavericks could need a young star to accompany Cooper Flagg.- 9. Memphis Grizzlies
Jayden Quaintance, C, Kentucky
Quaintance is recovering from an injury, but his potential as a vertical shooter and dunk threat is promising. The Grizzlies could have two draft picks.- 10. Oklahoma City Thunder (via LAC)
Dame Sarr, SG/SF, Duke
Sarr is considered an important prospect for Duke, with defensive potential and a developing offensive game. The Thunder could add talent to their already impressive roster.
- 11. Memphis Grizzlies (via Phoenix)
- 12. Portland Trail Blazers
Neoklis Avdalas, SG/SF, Virginia Tech
Avdalas impressed with his game, demonstrating his potential as a playmaking forward. He needs to improve his shot and his off-ball game.- 13. Chicago Bulls
Braylon Mullins, SG, UConn
Mullins is injured, but his excellent three-point shot and competitiveness make him an interesting prospect. The return of Coby White and Josh Giddey will give a better idea of the direction of the Bulls.- 14. Milwaukee Bucks
Darius Acuff Jr., PG, Arkansas
Acuff has had a good start, demonstrating his playmaking ability and good shooting. Teams needing a guard will follow him closely. The Bucks need help at the point guard position.- 15. Boston Celtics
Thomas Haugh, SF/PF, Florida
Haugh has shown his worth with his ball movement, defensive effort, and versatility. The Celtics could consider Haugh.
- 16. Toronto Raptors
Labaron Philon Jr., PG, Alabama
Philon has started the season with good performance, showing improvement in his shooting ability. The Raptors are looking to return to the playoffs.- 17. Charlotte Hornets (via Orlando)
Tounde Yessoufou, SG/SF, Baylor
Yessoufou has good potential, but he needs to improve his shot. His efficiency will be key to his draft position.- 18. Golden State Warriors
- 19. Miami Heat
Kingston Flemings, PG, Houston
Flemings has been one of the best freshmen, showing speed, vision, and explosiveness. His efficiency is notable.- 20. Minnesota Timberwolves
Bennett Stirtz, PG, Iowa
Stirtz, an experienced player, is an expert at ball handling. His performance against stronger competition will be key.
