Jared McCain aims to return for training camp with the 76ers
Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain has expressed his firm intention to return to action during training camp, after a promising rookie season was cut short by a meniscus tear.
“Right now, I’m on my way,” McCain stated on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old had a distinguished start to his career before suffering a meniscus injury in his left knee during a December game against Indiana.
Although there is no official timeline for McCain’s return, he still has time to integrate into the rotation for the start of the season. The 76ers will play on October 2nd and 4th in the NBA Abu Dhabi Games preseason. The first regular season game for the Sixers is October 22nd in Boston.
McCain averaged 15.3 points in 23 games for a Sixers team that began last season with NBA championship aspirations, before injuries relegated them to the draft lottery. He started eight games and quickly became a fan favorite, largely thanks to his nearly 5 million followers on TikTok.
He was also named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month in November.
McCain joined the trio of Sixers stars, Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George, among the key players who were out of action for long periods of time due to injuries. The 76ers had a record of 24-58, including a 5-31 streak at the end of the season.
Recovering and eager to return, McCain just wants to join the 76ers as soon as he is fully medically recovered.
“I haven’t talked to them yet about whether I’m free for everything,” McCain said, “but I’m definitely coming.”
