76ers’ Tyrese Maxey Suffers Finger Injury and Will Be Out
Philadelphia 76ers star guard Tyrese Maxey suffered a sprain in the fifth finger of his right hand and will be out for the team’s upcoming games, the team announced on Sunday.
Maxey will undergo further testing to establish a suitable treatment plan. The Sixers will play in Cleveland on Monday and then host the Grizzlies on Tuesday.
Maxey’s injury occurred with less than 30 seconds remaining in Saturday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He collided with a teammate after attempting to steal the ball and immediately grabbed his right hand in obvious pain. He was unable to finish the game.
The Sixers began Sunday one loss behind the sixth-seeded Orlando Magic. They have been without Paul George for the last few weeks, as he serves a 25-game suspension for violating the league’s drug program. Joel Embiid, meanwhile, has been in and out of the lineup this season due to knee problems. He has missed the last four games.
Maxey has had an outstanding season, averaging 29 points and 6.7 assists. He is four games away from meeting the 65-game requirement to be eligible for the end-of-season awards.
