Malik Beasley in Trouble: Eviction and Debts Amidst Gambling Investigation

NBA player Malik Beasley is at the center of controversy. After being investigated for alleged involvement in a betting scheme, he now faces a series of financial problems that complicate his situation. According to court documents, Beasley was evicted from his Detroit apartment on Wednesday. The landlord filed two lawsuits this year totaling $21,505 for unpaid rent. Although the first lawsuit was dismissed in March, the player did not respond to the second, resulting in an eviction order for $7,355. Beasley’s attorney in the federal gambling investigation, Steve Haney, clarified that he does not represent him in this eviction matter. Recent social media posts suggest that Beasley has been traveling around Europe. Beasley, 28, is the third NBA player investigated for gambling allegations in the last 18 months. The accusations against him date back to the 2023-24 season, when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks. So far, no charges have been filed against him.

An investigation is not a charge. Malik has the same right to the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the United States Constitution. So far, he has not been accused of anything.

Beasley was coming off a standout season with the Detroit Pistons and was in talks with the team for a three-year, $42 million contract. However, these negotiations have been suspended. Throughout his nine-year NBA career, Beasley has earned almost $60 million. In addition to the rental issues, Beasley is also facing a lawsuit from his former marketing agency, Hazan Sports Management, which alleges that he had difficulty paying a $650,000 advance earlier this year. He also owes money to a celebrity barber, a dentist, and a company that provides bridge loans to professional athletes.
