Malcolm Brogdon Announces His Retirement from Basketball
The New York Knicks’ point guard, Malcolm Brogdon, has decided to end his NBA career after nine seasons. The news was confirmed this Wednesday. Brogdon, who averaged 12.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.1 rebounds in 24 games with the Washington Wizards last season, was on track to be part of the Knicks’ final roster. However, the player had been considering retirement and communicated his decision to the team’s management.Brogdon, 32, also expressed his gratitude to all those who were part of his career. Brogdon’s decision impacts the Knicks’ roster configuration, as he was expected to be a backup point guard this season. Selected 36th overall in the 2016 draft, Brogdon was the NBA Rookie of the Year with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2017 and the NBA Sixth Man of the Year with the Boston Celtics in 2023. He is one of two players to win both awards, along with Mike Miller. Brogdon had a combined average of 43% from the 3-point line during the 2022-24 seasons, ranking fourth in the league, although it decreased to 29% last season. In his nine seasons in the NBA, Brogdon averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 29.1 minutes per game with the Wizards, Trail Blazers, Celtics, Pacers, and Bucks.Today, I officially begin my transition out of my basketball career.
