Damian Lillard Takes on a New Role in College Basketball
Damian Lillard, known for his outstanding career in the NBA, returns to his university roots, but this time from a leadership position. The talented player joins Weber State as general manager, marking a milestone in his career and in the history of college basketball. The announcement was made during the Weber State Basketball Alumni Classic, an event organized by Lillard himself in Ogden, Utah. His connection with coach Eric Duft and the Weber State program has been fundamental in this decision.The role of general manager has gained relevance in college basketball and football, especially with the changes in the transfer portal and new regulations. Lillard joins the list of important figures who take on these types of responsibilities. Lillard, who was twice Big Sky Conference MVP during his three seasons at Weber State, left an indelible mark on the university. He was the program’s only All-American and ranks fourth in all-time scoring and third in three-pointers. The university has indicated that Lillard will collaborate closely with the coaching staff and the athletic department’s management, providing guidance and mentorship. His experience in both the university and professional fields will be invaluable to the program. Lillard, a nine-time NBA All-Star, recently renewed his contract with the Trail Blazers.
