Lakers Replace Special NBA Cup Court After Player Concerns

The Los Angeles Lakers will make a crucial decision for their next NBA Cup match against the Dallas Mavericks this Friday: they will use their traditional court instead of the special and alternative surface that had generated concerns among the players. The decision was made after Luka Doncic expressed his concern about the slippery surface of the court used in the Lakers’ previous game in the NBA Cup. Technicians from the league’s court provider examined the NBA Cup’s bright yellow court and determined it was unfit for Friday’s game. The provider is expected to make repairs to the court and have it available in case Los Angeles hosts a quarterfinal game of the NBA Cup at Crypto.com Arena.

League Spokesperson
The league spokesperson added that, in consultation with the Lakers, areas of the NBA Cup court were identified that required additional refinishing, so the team will use its standard home court for tonight’s game. The NBA Cup court is being refurbished and will be ready for use in the quarterfinals if they are hosts. Lakers forward Rui Hachimura also commented on the playing surface after the team’s victory over the LA Clippers, describing it as “weird” and “slippery”. After Tuesday’s victory, Doncic went on to call the court “dangerous”. The Lakers have a 3-0 record in the NBA Cup group stage and have already secured a place in the quarter-finals. They can secure home advantage in the quarter-finals with a win over Dallas in their final group stage match on Friday.
