Los Angeles Lakers Restructure Their Basketball Operations Department

The Los Angeles Lakers have announced a reorganization in their basketball operations department, which has led to the departure of several key executives, according to sources. The news has generated a great stir among fans and the media. Joey and Jesse Buss, prominent figures in the Lakers’ front office, have been dismissed from their respective positions with immediate effect. In addition to the Buss brothers, the team has dispensed with a large part of its scouting department, including Sean Buss, Aaron Jackson, Moses Zapata, and Can Pelister. In response to a request for comment, a Lakers spokesperson confirmed the departure of Joey and Jesse Buss, without offering further statements. Joey and Jesse Buss have played important roles in the Lakers’ scouting over the last decade, contributing to the identification of talents such as Austin Reaves, Alex Caruso, Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., and Max Christie. Joey Buss served as alternate governor and vice president of research and development, while Jesse Buss was the assistant to the general manager of the Lakers.

We are extremely honored to have been a part of this organization for the last 20 seasons. We thank Laker Nation for supporting our family every step of the way. We wish things could have been different with the way our time with the team ended. In moments like this, we wish we could ask our father what he would think of all this.

Jeanie Buss, Joey and Jesse’s older sister, will continue as the team’s principal governor for the foreseeable future. Joey, 41, and Jesse, 37, are Jeanie’s (64) younger siblings. This change in the organization’s structure marks a new chapter for the Lakers. The Buss siblings will retain their minority ownership shares of the Lakers. In September, they announced the launch of Buss Sports Capital, an investment firm aimed at identifying acquisitions and partnerships in the global sports landscape. Jerry Buss, who passed away in 2013, acquired the Lakers in 1979 in a $67.5 million transaction that also included the Los Angeles Kings and the Forum. The Buss family sold the majority ownership of the Lakers to Mark Walter in June. The sale, valued at $10 billion, was approved by the NBA’s board of governors last month.
