Guerschon Yabusele joins the Knicks with a millionaire contract
Free agent center Guerschon Yabusele has reached an agreement with the New York Knicks for a two-year, $12 million contract, with a player option. This was reported by sources close to the situation.
The Knicks negotiated the new agreement with agents Olivier Mazet and Richie Felder, representatives of the player.
Yabusele signed a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers last August, after playing a significant role in France’s silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
The 6-foot-8, 260-pound power forward was a revelation in Paris, scoring 22, 17, and 20 points against Canada, Germany, and the United States, respectively. In those three games, Yabusele shot an impressive 16 of 24 (66.7%) from the field.
His success during the summer translated to the NBA this season. He had 50% field goal percentage and 38% on three-pointers, being one of the few bright spots on a 76ers team that saw its season cut short by injuries.
Yabusele was originally a first-round pick in the 2016 draft by the Boston Celtics. He played little in two seasons for the Celtics before being cut in the summer of 2019. After playing one season in China, he spent part of two seasons at ASVEL in France, a team owned by Basketball Hall of Famer Tony Parker, before signing with Real Madrid in the summer of 2021.
Yabusele spent three years with Madrid, helping them win the EuroLeague title in 2023 and reach the Final Four of the competition every season.
