New York Knicks Add Billy Lange to Their Team
The New York Knicks are ready to bring Billy Lange, current head coach of Saint Joseph’s, into their organization. This was reported by sources close to the team. Lange was preparing to start his seventh season at the helm of the Hawks. His performance at St. Joe’s was 81-104, although he managed to surpass 20 victories in each of the last two seasons. Under his leadership, the Hawks managed to reach the NIT in 2024 and 2025. In addition, he saw Rasheer Fleming become the first Saint Joseph’s player selected in the NBA draft since 2016. Fleming was the first pick of the second round by the Oklahoma City Thunder in June. Before assuming the position in 2019, Lange worked as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers for six years. He was also head coach of Navy for seven seasons and spent time as an assistant under Jay Wright at Villanova in two different periods. The Knicks, after Tom Thibodeau’s departure in June after five seasons, named Mike Brown, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, as his replacement a month later. Saint Joseph’s announced on Wednesday that Steve Donahue, who joined the team as an associate coach in the spring, will take over as head coach of the program. The school stated that Donahue “will lead the Hawks in the 2025-26 season and beyond”.Notable assistant coach hires by the Knicks since Brown took over include Chris Jent, former assistant with the Charlotte Hornets, and T.J. Saint, who was head coach of the G League’s Birmingham Squadron.“Coach Donahue has had an incredible impact on college basketball throughout the East Coast and on the national stage. He is a rare and accomplished coach who is as respected for his basketball acumen as he is for his character,” said Athletic Director Jill Bodensteiner.
