Mikal Bridges Secures His Future with the Knicks: Million-Dollar Extension

New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges has reached an agreement to extend his contract with the franchise for four years and $150 million. The agreement includes a player option for the 2029-30 season and a trade clause.

This contract extension ensures Bridges’ continuity on the team, providing stability to the Knicks. It should be noted that Bridges cannot be traded for six months after signing the extension.

Bridges, known for his versatility and contribution to the team, has proven to be a key player in the Knicks’ squad. The player has opted for a slight discount on their maximum extension to allow the team to maintain flexibility and continue to strengthen their squad. Last season, Bridges played an important role alongside Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and other players, leading the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference final in 25 years. With the Bridges extension resolved, the team’s main unknown this offseason has been cleared. Brunson’s extension in 2024 and now the agreement with Bridges give the Knicks the flexibility needed to operate under the salary cap, which will allow them to incorporate more players. Bridges, who will turn 29 in August, had a patchy start to his first season with the Knicks, after being traded to the team last summer. Despite these challenges, Bridges proved to be effective in several aspects of the game. Bridges stood out at key moments during the postseason. In addition to scoring in double digits in two quarters in the series against the Celtics, he made crucial stops in the final stages of games 1 and 2, in which the Knicks achieved spectacular comebacks.
