Klay Thompson Tired of Ja Morant’s Words

Dallas Mavericks player Klay Thompson expressed his frustration with Ja Morant’s constant statements, after Saturday’s game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Mavericks, where the Grizzlies won 102-96. Morant, absent for the third consecutive game due to a calf injury, had a verbal exchange with Thompson after the final whistle. The tension between both players has been latent since the 2022 playoffs, when Thompson and the Golden State Warriors eliminated the Grizzlies on their way to the championship.

He’s a funny guy. He always has a lot to say, especially for someone who rarely takes responsibility.

Thompson was also involved in other confrontations during the game, including an altercation with Santi Aldama over a foul on Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg. Later, Thompson and Vince Williams Jr. received technical fouls for exchanging words. After the game, Morant approached Cam Spencer during an interview, belittling Thompson, who scored 22 points in the loss but missed a crucial three-pointer. “Tell him who the best shooter in the house was,” Morant said to Spencer, “It wasn’t the one from Golden State.” Thompson described Morant’s comments as “lacking intellectual depth” and alluded to the off-court issues, suspensions, and injuries that have affected Morant’s career.

Thompson criticized Morant for “talking a lot” and for not backing up his words with actions. He also mentioned Morant’s suspensions in the last three seasons. In the current season, Morant averages 17.9 points with 35.9% field goal shooting and 16.7% in three-pointers. Thompson also commented on the absence of Aldama, which reminded him of “dirty things” from the Grizzlies in the 2022 playoffs. Thompson, who now has a substitute role in Dallas, expressed his respect for the “Grit ‘n Grind” era Grizzlies, but not for the recent versions.

They just talk a lot. They’ve always talked a lot. And they never really backed it up either, so I don’t really respect that. I respect the guys that back up the talk with the game, because talk is cheap.
