John Wall Hangs Up His Sneakers After 11 Seasons in the NBA

The prominent player John Wall has announced his retirement from professional basketball, ending an 11-season career in the NBA. Wall, 34, developed most of his career with the Washington Wizards, the team that selected him as the first overall pick in the 2010 draft from the University of Kentucky. The point guard, a five-time All-Star, ends his time in the NBA with averages of 18.7 points and 8.9 assists per game.

Today, I leave the court, but I don’t walk away from the game. Basketball will always be in my life, and new opportunities arise. I feel that now is the time to confidently enter my next chapter.

During his career, Wall also played for the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. In his most outstanding season, he averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists for the Wizards in the 2016-17 season, being recognized on the All-NBA third team. At his best, Wall was one of the fastest and most athletic point guards in the league, becoming the dunk contest champion in 2014. In addition, he proved to be an elite defender, making the second All-Defensive team in 2015. Injuries marked the second half of his career. In the last six seasons, he never played more than half the games, and did not participate in the last two years.
