Jimmy Butler Undergoes Successful Surgery, Out for the Rest of the Season

Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler underwent successful surgery on his right knee, the team announced. The surgical intervention was performed on Monday morning in Los Angeles. Butler suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will be out for the rest of the season. The team will not provide updates on his progress until “early next season”, suggesting his return could be in the middle of the 2026-27 campaign. The injury occurred on January 19 during a game against the Miami Heat. Butler consulted with several specialists before deciding on surgery, which was performed by Dr. Bert Mandelbaum. Butler arrived at the Warriors almost a year ago, following a trade from Miami. His arrival boosted the team, leading them to a positive streak and the second round of the playoffs last season. With Butler on the court, the Warriors achieved a 12-4 record in their last 16 games, generating internal optimism about their playoff chances. However, Butler’s injury, according to coach Steve Kerr, has limited the team’s expectations. Butler has one year and $56.8 million left on his current contract. General manager Mike Dunleavy stated that he does not “foresee” a Butler trade and expects his return to the team next season.

I think he has a style of play that can last a long time with his skill, his physique, and his mentality for the game. So, I guess, my vision for him is that he returns sometime between now and this time next year.
