Jeremy Lin Retires from Professional Basketball
Jeremy Lin, known for his impactful appearance in the NBA in 2012 during his time with the New York Knicks, where “Linsanity” was generated, has announced his retirement from professional basketball. The announcement was made through a post on Instagram on Saturday night.In the publication, Lin expressed:Lin, 37, comes from winning consecutive championships with the New Taipei Kings. Last season, he was named MVP of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League in its inaugural season, and then earned the Finals MVP award during the New Taipei Kings’ championship run. Before playing in China and Taiwan, Lin spent nine seasons in the NBA with eight different franchises after going undrafted out of Harvard, where he joined the team as a walk-on. Lin made his mark with the Knicks in 2012 when then-coach Mike D’Antoni included him in the lineup in February of that year, when Carmelo Anthony was out of action, and led New York to a seven-game winning streak. During that period, Lin became the first player in NBA history to average 20 points and seven assists in his first five games. One of the highlights of “Linsanity” was a performance of 38 points and 7 assists in a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, surpassing Kobe Bryant, who scored 34 points in the game. He averaged 14.6 points and 6.2 assists in 35 games that season for New York. He finished his NBA career with averages of 11.6 points and 4.3 assists in 480 games for the Golden State Warriors, Knicks, Houston Rockets, Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors. He won an NBA championship with the Raptors in 2019, his last season in the NBA.“As athletes, we are always aware that the possibility of retirement is never far away. I have spent 15 years of my career knowing that one day I would have to leave, and yet, saying goodbye to basketball today has been the most difficult decision I have made”.
