Jason Kidd Secures His Future with the Mavericks

Coach Jason Kidd has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced on Tuesday. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Our entire organization deeply appreciates Coach Kidd’s leadership, focus, and positive energy,” said team governor Patrick Dumont in a statement. “Coach Kidd embodies everything our organization wants in a leader, and I am happy he is here for many more years. We are confident that he will continue to lead our team thoughtfully and with principle as we pursue our goal of bringing championships to the city of Dallas.”

This extension comes after the strong interest of the New York Knicks in Kidd, before they hired Mike Brown to fill their coaching vacancy. The Mavericks refused to give the Knicks permission to interview Kidd, who has a record of 179-149 during his four years in Dallas. The Mavericks reached the Western Conference finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals in 2024 under Kidd’s direction.

“I am grateful for the trust that Patrick and Nico Harrison [General Manager] have in me, and the trust we have built while working together to build a team that Dallas can be proud of,” Kidd said in a statement. “We have a great group of players here who love basketball, are talented and coachable… It’s even more special that I can continue to coach the team that drafted me, and where I was able to win a title as a player. I am looking forward to what’s coming and to continue working to bring another championship back to Dallas.”

Kidd’s previous contract extension occurred during the Mavericks’ 2024 playoff run, when the Los Angeles Lakers showed interest in interviewing him.
