DENVER – Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray suffered a right ankle sprain during the 131-121 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night. Murray was injured at the beginning of the third quarter. Although he limped to the locker room, he returned and finished the period. However, he was not on the bench during the last 12 minutes of Denver’s fourth consecutive home loss. Coach David Adelman reported that Murray will be evaluated on Tuesday.
Murray averaged a career-best 24 points before the game. He finished with 10 points and nine assists. It’s a huge absence, obviously, on offense. Jamal is a very tough player. If he’s sitting because of the pain, it probably hurts. I hope he can return [for the next game].
David Adelman
Murray suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee at the end of the 2020-21 season. He averaged 26.1 points and 7.1 assists during the 2023 postseason, which culminated in Denver’s victory in their first NBA championship. If Murray is out, he will join his fellow starters Aaron Gordon (right hamstring) and Christian Braun (left ankle sprain) on the sidelines. Gordon was injured in Houston on November 21st and is not expected to return until late December or early January. Braun sprained his ankle against the Clippers on November 12th and was expected to miss at least six weeks. Gordon and Braun are two of the team’s best defenders, and their absences have sometimes been felt.It was definitely a blow, especially at the end. Everyone knows Mal and Nikola Jokic’s deadly pick-and-roll. We definitely had problems.

I’m not going to come here any night and sit and talk about the players who are out. We have enough here to be more consistent on defense.
