Tyrese Haliburton: No regrets after the injury that cut short his season

The Indiana Pacers star, Tyrese Haliburton, has expressed his firm stance after suffering a serious injury in the seventh game of the NBA Finals, stating that he does not regret having played despite a previous calf injury.

“I would do it again, and again after that, to fight for this city and my brothers,” Haliburton wrote in an emotional statement on social media. “For the opportunity to do something special.”

Haliburton suffered a calf strain in the fifth game, and despite being questionable for the sixth game, he decided to play. Although he managed to get through that game without problems, in the seventh game, he fell to the floor while attempting an offensive play with 4:55 left to finish the first quarter. The player left the game unable to put weight on his leg, visibly affected. The Pacers later confirmed that Haliburton suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon.

This injury ended a remarkable individual performance in the playoffs, where Haliburton had managed to make decisive shots in the final seconds in each of the previous four rounds. In addition, it interrupted the surprising run of the Pacers, who ultimately lost the seventh game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. “I don’t know how to explain it other than with shock,” Haliburton wrote. “Words cannot express the pain of this disappointment. The frustration is unfathomable. I have worked my whole life to get to this moment, and this is how it ends? It makes no sense.” Haliburton, 25, will miss the 2025-26 season, although the team has not provided a timeline for his return. He joins Damian Lillard and Jayson Tatum as the stars who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in these playoffs. In his post, Haliburton expressed his confidence in overcoming rehabilitation and returning to his best level. “I don’t ‘have to’ go through this, I can go through this,” Haliburton wrote. “I am grateful for the path ahead. Watch how I come back from this. So, give me some time, I’ll shake off the dust and be the best version of Tyrese Haliburton again.”
