Josh Giddey Signs Million-Dollar Contract with the Bulls
The talented player Josh Giddey has reached an agreement to extend his stay with the Chicago Bulls, signing a four-year, $100 million contract. This was announced by Daniel Moldovan, agent of Lighthouse Sports Management.
The agreement, which ensures Giddey’s continuity in the team, does not include options for either the player or the franchise.
Giddey, 22, is solidifying himself as a key piece in the starting point guard position for the Bulls, following his arrival via a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where Alex Caruso was part of the deal during the 2024 offseason.
Last season, Giddey had an outstanding performance, averaging 14.6 points per game and setting personal records in rebounds (8.1), assists (7.2), steals (1.2), and three-point shooting percentage (37.8%). In addition, he achieved seven triple-doubles, the second-highest number in Bulls history in a season, surpassed only by Michael Jordan in the 1988-89 season.
Following the All-Star break and Zach LaVine’s departure, Giddey elevated his game, demonstrating leadership on the team with averages of 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 9.3 assists, with 50% field goal efficiency, including 46% on three-pointers.
On March 22, against the Los Angeles Lakers, Giddey became the first player to record 15 points, 15 assists, 10 rebounds, and eight steals in an NBA game since steals were counted as an official statistic in the 1973-74 season. The Bulls achieved a 15-5 record at the end of the regular season, securing a spot in the play-in tournament; Giddey participated in 13 of those games, averaging 20.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 9.7 assists.
During the last month of the season, he played despite a muscle injury in the palm of his shooting hand.
Giddey, selected sixth overall in the 2021 NBA draft by Oklahoma City, quickly demonstrated his ability to contribute in various facets of the game. Furthermore, Giddey remains the youngest player in NBA history to achieve a triple-double, at 19 years and 84 days old, when he recorded 17 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds against the Dallas Mavericks on January 2, 2022.
Giddey joins Cam Thomas of the Brooklyn Nets as the only restricted free agents to secure a deal in September. Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga and Philadelphia’s Quentin Grimes have yet to define their situation.
The restriction in the free agent market was due to the limited availability of salary cap space among teams. The Nets have been the only team with real spending capacity for most of the offseason.
