Giannis Antetokounmpo Reaffirms Commitment to Bucks, but Leaves Door Open

Amidst preparations for the regular season, Giannis Antetokounmpo has reiterated his commitment to the Milwaukee Bucks. However, the Greek star has also hinted at the possibility of a change of heart in the future. Antetokounmpo’s statements come after reports of Bucks’ conversations with the New York Knicks for a possible trade of the two-time MVP during the summer.

“I’ve said this many times: I want to be in a situation where I can win. I believe in this team. I believe in my teammates. I am here to lead this team to where we can get. It’s definitely going to be difficult. We’ll take it day by day, but I’m here. So everything else doesn’t matter”.

Antetokounmpo emphasized his desire to compete for championships, whether in Milwaukee or elsewhere. Furthermore, he highlighted his focus on the team and his current commitment. “I have communicated with my colleagues, I have communicated with the people I respect and love, that the moment I step on this court or in these facilities, wear this jersey, the rest doesn’t matter. I am focused on what is in front of me. Now, if in six, seven months I change my mind, I think that is also human.” After missing the start of training camp due to illness, Antetokounmpo rejoined the team over the weekend in Miami, although he did not participate in the first preseason game. The Bucks will host the Pistons on Thursday in Milwaukee. “I am focused on this team. I am focused on these guys, on this group, on this coaching staff, and on myself.” Antetokounmpo described the offseason as a period of “temptation.” Now, with the start of training camp, he has stayed away from social media and focused on his game. “It’s temptation. That starts when the season ends until the season starts,” Antetokounmpo said. “There will be a lot of people who will approach me or my agent and say that this is a possibility, that that is a possibility… but at the end of the day, ultimately, I will make a decision. And my decision today is that I am here and I am committed to this team.”
