Giannis Antetokounmpo Out Due to Injury: Estimated Time of Absence

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered a low-grade left groin strain and will be out for one to two weeks, according to sources. The injury occurred during Monday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, forcing Antetokounmpo to leave the game.

Bucks coach Doc Rivers called the injury “good news” in an interview with the Bucks+ Audio podcast “Courtside with Gale Klappa.”

Rivers also added: “I don’t know what degree it is, but I know it’s not serious, so that’s good for us. But still, he’ll probably be out for two weeks. And we’ll see. Hopefully, less, but most likely it will be in that range.” The coach pointed out that Antetokounmpo began to feel discomfort in his groin from the first quarter of Monday’s game and grabbed his left groin several times before leaving the game. With 3:03 left in the second quarter, Antetokounmpo limped across the court on defense before committing a foul and heading to the Bucks’ locker room. Antetokounmpo has had a spectacular start to the season, averaging 32.6 points with 63% shooting efficiency, 11.3 rebounds, and 7.1 assists in his first 12 games. The Bucks have relied even more on their star, with a usage rate of 36.4%, the second highest in the NBA before Monday and the highest for Antetokounmpo since the 2022-23 season.

Without their star, the Bucks were outscored 59-49 and only shot 38.6% after halftime against the Cavaliers, suffering their second consecutive loss of the season. The Bucks have an 8-7 record and a 1-1 record in the games that Antetokounmpo has missed this season.
