Giannis Antetokounmpo Out Due to Injury: Absence Estimation

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered a low-grade left groin strain and will be out for one to two weeks. This news comes after Antetokounmpo left Monday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers due to the injury.

It’s good news for us, although he’ll probably be out for two weeks. Let’s hope it’s less, but it’s most likely in that time frame.

Doc Rivers, Bucks coach
Bucks coach Doc Rivers called the injury “good news” in an interview on the Bucks+ Audio podcast “Courtside with Gale Klappa”. Rivers explained that Antetokounmpo began to feel discomfort in his groin from the first quarter of Monday’s game, touching his left groin on several occasions before leaving the game. With 3:03 left in the second quarter, Antetokounmpo limped on defense before committing a foul and heading to the Bucks’ locker room. Antetokounmpo has had one of the best starts to a season of his career, averaging 32.6 points with 63% shooting accuracy, 11.3 rebounds, and 7.1 assists in his first 12 games. The Bucks have relied even more on their superstar, with a usage rate of 36.4%, the second highest in the NBA before Monday and the highest for Antetokounmpo since the 2022-23 season.

Without their star, the Bucks were outscored 59-49 and shot 38.6% from the field after halftime against the Cavs, losing two straight games for the first time this season. The Bucks fell to 8-7 with the loss, and are 1-1 in games Antetokounmpo has missed this season.
