De’Aaron Fox secures his future with the Spurs with a millionaire contract
The San Antonio Spurs star, De’Aaron Fox, has reached an agreement to extend his contract with the franchise for four years and $229 million, according to Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul. This maximum salary agreement does not include a player option in the final year, ensuring Fox’s stay in San Antonio until the 2029-30 season. The extension comes after Fox was traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Spurs. Fox and his agent managed to finalize the transfer to San Antonio, his preferred destination, in February and subsequently secure this long-term extension. The Spurs have built a talented young core, including Fox, Dylan Harper, selected with the number 2 pick in the NBA draft, and Stephon Castle. The relationship between Fox and Victor Wembanyama, who played together in only five games last season, has strengthened, and they are expected to lead the team in the coming years. Fox, who averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games with the Spurs last season, underwent surgery on March 18 to repair an injury to the tendon in his left pinky finger. “What will be different in the future is that the fans will see me play with 10 fingers,” Fox commented. In 62 combined games with the Spurs and Kings, Fox averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds. He had a 60-point game on November 15 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, setting a franchise record. Fox is one of two players averaging 20 points, 5 assists, and 1 steal in each of the last six seasons, along with Luka Doncic, and is one of four players with 10,000 points, 3,000 assists, and 700 steals since entering the NBA in 2017-18, along with James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Nikola Jokic.“Being part of an organization like this… you feel it. You feel it in the atmosphere. You feel it in the fans. And then you go to the training facilities or the stadium and you see those banners hanging… there’s nothing you can do besides try to build on that,” Fox stated.
