Cooper Flagg Shines in Mavericks Debut

FORT WORTH, Texas – Rookie sensation Cooper Flagg, selected as the number one draft pick, proved his worth in his preseason debut with the Dallas Mavericks. Flagg showcased his versatility by impacting the game in multiple facets, contributing significantly to the Mavericks’ victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder with a score of 106-89 at the Dickies Arena. In just 14 minutes of play, the 18-year-old recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a block, clearly demonstrating his talent.

“It’s a fun style of basketball to play when the ball moves around. It was fun,” commented Flagg.

All of Flagg’s points were scored in an impressive span of two minutes and 38 seconds in the second quarter. After grabbing a defensive rebound, Flagg went the length of the court to score a layup, marking his first points. Subsequently, he hit a three-pointer and converted two free throws after a play in the paint, as well as another three-pointer off the dribble. The rookie finished with 3 of 6 field goals and 2 of 3 three-pointers, without committing turnovers, demonstrating control and handling point guard responsibilities at times.

“Just take what the defense gives me. Keep it simple, make the right play, whether it’s passing or shooting, whatever,” explained Flagg.

One of the most outstanding moments of the match was an impressive block on Isaiah Joe, which initiated a counterattack culminating in a dunk.

“We were able to see his defense, his playmaking, and his scoring. It was really, really good,” said Mavericks coach Jason Kidd.
