The Rockets star, Kevin Durant, expressed that scoring the winning shot on Monday night against the Suns had a special meaning, as he was facing his former team. Durant, who scored 26 points, made a three-pointer with 1.1 seconds left on the clock, securing the Rockets’ victory with a score of 100-97.

Definitely, a place I didn’t want to leave. For the first time, I don’t want to sound too dramatic, but I will, that they kicked me out of a place.

The game was tied when Durant made the long-distance shot that gave the Rockets the victory. This summer, Durant joined the Rockets from the Suns, in a move that involved Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green.

It feels good to play against a team that kicked you out of the building and made you the scapegoat for all their problems. And it hurt because I put all my effort, love, and care into the Suns and the Phoenix and Arizona area in general. But that’s the business, that’s the name of the game. So when you play against a former team, yes, you have a grudge.

Durant, 37 years old, spent two and a half seasons with the Suns after being traded from the Nets in February 2023. He was an All-Star in his two full seasons in Phoenix, but the team did not meet expectations, losing in the first round of the postseason in the 2023-24 season and failing to reach the playoffs last season.

It’s nothing more than love for the players, but I want to beat that team. I want to show them that I still have some juice in the tank. Even though I’m old, I can still play. I feel like all players have that mentality when playing against their former team. I don’t think it’s malicious in any way towards them. But as a competitor, you want to go out there and beat them.

Kevin Durant
Durant hopes these feelings don’t last long.

By the time I get home tonight, I probably won’t even remember it. Well, I’ll remember it, but I’ll do my best to forget it and move on to the next one.
