Doncic and Avdija shine at EuroBasket: Slovenia and Israel advance
In a day full of excitement at the EuroBasket, Luka Doncic led Slovenia with 26 points, securing their place in the knockout phase after defeating Iceland 87-79. France also qualified thanks to this result. On the other hand, Deni Avdija guided Israel to the next round with 22 points in the 92-89 victory over Belgium.
Doncic, star of the Dallas Mavericks, although he didn’t have his best night from the three-point line, with only 2 out of 10 attempts, once again demonstrated his ability to lead his team.
Israel, for its part, defeated Belgium in a contested match, with Avdija at the helm. Yam Madar sealed the victory with two free throws in the final seconds.
Slovenia, along with Poland, Israel and France, are the teams advancing from Group D.
Spain in danger, Greece falls and Yabusele stands out
Spain’s situation in the tournament is uncertain after falling to Italy 67-63. Despite the defeat, the defending champion still has a chance to advance.
Marco Spissu was key for Italy, scoring decisive free throws in the final seconds. Santi Aldama, of the Memphis Grizzlies, led Spain with 19 points and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough.
Greece, already qualified, suffered its first defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina (80-77), with Giannis Antetokounmpo resting due to knee discomfort.
In another encounter, Guerschon Yabusele led France over Poland with 36 points.
The qualifying phase will be played in Riga, Latvia, from September 6 to 14. Spain defeated France in the 2022 final.
