Stephen Curry Out with Contusion and Strain

The Golden State Warriors expect Stephen Curry to miss around a week due to a quadriceps contusion. The length of his absence will depend on how he responds to treatment, according to sources close to the team. On Thursday, the Warriors confirmed via an MRI that Curry is suffering from a contusion and a muscle strain. The team announced that Curry will be reevaluated in a week. Curry, who left the game in the last minute of the home loss against the Rockets on Wednesday night, seems to have avoided any serious problem, according to sources.

When I heard it was the quadriceps, I actually felt relieved. It’s better than an ankle or a knee.

Steve Kerr, Warriors Coach
The Warriors will complete their current home game series against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. Curry was injured after a series of collisions in the last quarter. He tried to draw a charge on Rockets guard Amen Thompson with 3:24 remaining and was pushed with an elbow. After the review, Curry was called for a blocking foul. Two possessions later, Curry drove into the paint to attempt a layup and was called for an offensive foul. Kerr challenged the call, but it was not overturned. Afterward, Curry moved cautiously for the next few minutes, showing obvious pain. During a timeout with 35.2 seconds remaining and the Warriors losing by five points, Curry spoke with Rick Celebrini, the team’s chief medical officer, who indicated to the bench that Curry was done for the night. Both went to the locker room. Curry’s injury comes at an unstable time for the Warriors. Wednesday night’s loss left them with a 10-10 record after 20 games, following a promising 4-1 start to the season. After the game, both Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green criticized the team’s recent defensive effort.
