Stephen Curry: New Knee Injury Evaluation

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will be re-evaluated in 10 days due to a persistent right knee injury, according to league sources. This will keep him off the court for at least five more games. Curry underwent an MRI in the last 24 hours, which did not reveal major damage. However, the persistent pain and inflammation have prevented him from returning to activity. The team has officially classified the injury as patellofemoral pain syndrome, also known as “runner’s knee”.

It’s just a lingering pain.

Steve Kerr, Warriors coach
Before the All-Star break, Warriors coach Steve Kerr had expressed optimism about the improvement of the inflammation and pain in Curry’s knee. His possible return for Thursday night was even expected. However, Curry returned to the facilities on Wednesday night and informed the medical staff that he did not feel completely ready to participate in a practice game. The pain has resurfaced after individual workouts. Curry missed the last five games before the All-Star break due to pain and inflammation. The problem originated during an individual workout on January 24 in Minneapolis. He tried to play in some games, but ultimately had to stop.

We have to be sure. He has to be sure. … It’s a little confusing, but that’s the nature of the injury.

Steve Kerr, Warriors coach
On February 5, Curry stated that his right knee was “going in the right direction”, but that he would remain cautious before returning to play.

You have to try to get rid of all the inflammation and pain. It’s something we still have to monitor and manage, but it’s something that, if I come back too soon, could get worse.
