Grizzlies’ Brandon Clarke to Undergo Knee Surgery
Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Brandon Clarke will undergo arthroscopic surgery to address the knee synovitis he suffered during preseason training, the team announced Friday.
Sources reported that Clarke will be reevaluated in six weeks. The Grizzlies indicated that Clarke is expected to make a full recovery from his synovitis, a problem affecting the lining of the knee joint, but did not reveal a specific timeframe.
Clarke, 29, missed the last month of the 2024-25 season due to a posterior cruciate ligament sprain, which healed completely without the need for surgery.
The announcement of Clarke’s injury was one of several updates from the Grizzlies on Friday. The team also reported that center Zach Edey (ankle) and forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (toe) have been cleared to begin ramping up their basketball activities. Edey is expected to miss between six and nine more weeks, while Jackson could return to play in four to six weeks, according to the Grizzlies.
Clarke has dealt with several lower-body injuries throughout his career. In addition to this latest issue and the posterior cruciate ligament strain, he ruptured his left Achilles tendon at the end of the 2022-23 season and missed most of the following year.
Last season, he played in 64 games and averaged 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18.9 minutes. Clarke has two years and $25 million left on his contract.
