Cavaliers Fined for Violating Participation Policy

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been fined $100,000 by the NBA for a violation of the league’s player participation policy.

The sanction is due to the team’s decision not to field Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley in the November 12th match against the Miami Heat.

Both players were classified as stars according to the league’s regulations, established before the 2023-24 season. This policy aims to reduce workload management and encourage participation in the NBA regular season.

The Cavaliers, who were in a stretch of six games in eight days, were fined for “resting” both players, as indicated in the injury report.

Mitchell and Mobley had played two days earlier in an overtime loss against Miami on November 10, and both were in the lineup the following night, November 13, when the Cavs played on the second night of a back-to-back in Cleveland.
