Cavaliers’ Max Strus Sidelined by Fracture

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Max Strus underwent surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot and will be out for a period of three to four months, the team announced on Tuesday.

Strus suffered the injury, a fracture of the bone that connects the pinky toe to the base of the foot, during recent preseason training. The Cavaliers reported that the player is expected to return to basketball activities within three to four months.

Strus, 28, joined the Cavaliers two summers ago via a sign-and-trade deal for four years and $63 million. He has played a key role in Cleveland’s rise as a contender in the Eastern Conference over the past two years.

Last season, Strus was also affected at the beginning due to a right ankle sprain suffered during training. He missed the first two months of the season before returning and averaging 9.4 points and 3.2 assists, with 38.6% effectiveness in 3-point shots.

His estimated recovery time indicates that he will miss at least the first few months of next season, which begins for Cleveland on October 22.
