Cam Thomas Re-signs with the Nets for One Year
Cam Thomas, a restricted free agent, has agreed to sign a one-year, $6 million qualifying offer with the Brooklyn Nets. The news was confirmed by sources close to the situation.
The Nets failed to reach a long-term agreement with Thomas, leading the player to accept the qualifying offer. This offer grants him a “no-trade” clause and will leave him as an unrestricted free agent next summer, when at least ten teams are expected to have available cap space.
Thomas’ representatives, Ron Shade and Alex Saratsis from Octagon, discussed several possible deals with the Nets, but ultimately rejected Brooklyn’s offers, including a two-year, $30 million contract with a team option in the second year, and a one-year, $9.5 million contract with incentives that could increase to $11 million, but without a “no-trade” clause.
Last season, Thomas averaged 24.0 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in 31.2 minutes per game, although he only participated in 25 games due to hamstring injuries. It was the first time in his career that Thomas missed a significant amount of time on the court.
Thomas has demonstrated a great ability to score and create plays. During the 2024-25 season, he was double-teamed on 18% of his possessions, according to GeniusIQ. This figure positions him as the fourth-most double-teamed player among those with at least 1,000 possessions, surpassed only by Zion Williamson, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
In the last two seasons, Thomas has averaged 22.9 points in 31.4 minutes per game. Previously, in his first two NBA seasons, he averaged 9.5 points in 17.1 minutes per game. In addition, he has achieved nine games with 40 points or more in his career, which puts him in fourth place in Nets history, behind Vince Carter, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant.
