Cade Cunningham Leaves Game with Back Spasms

The Detroit Pistons’ star point guard, Cade Cunningham, was forced to leave Tuesday’s game against the Washington Wizards due to back spasms. Cunningham, who has been a two-time All-Star and is in contention for the NBA MVP award, suffered the injury at the beginning of the first quarter while fighting for a loose ball. Despite the injury, Cunningham continued playing for a few more minutes before being substituted at 6:40 of the first quarter. The team confirmed during the second quarter that he would not return to the game. So far this season, Cunningham is averaging 25 points, 10 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game. In Tuesday’s game, before leaving, he accumulated six points and two rebounds in 5 minutes and 20 seconds of play. Cunningham has played in 61 games this season. To be eligible for major postseason awards, such as MVP and All-NBA teams, a player must participate in at least 65 games.
