Deandre Ayton, out due to injury in the Lakers vs. Jazz game

Los Angeles Lakers’ center, Deandre Ayton, was ruled out for Sunday night’s game against the Utah Jazz. Ayton had to leave the game in the middle of the second quarter due to a contusion on his right knee. The injury occurred after a collision with Ayton’s knee by Utah rookie Ace Bailey in the first quarter. Ayton finished the game with two points, the result of 1 of 2 shooting, two rebounds and a steal in 13 minutes of play. Before Sunday’s game, the former No. 1 draft pick was averaging 16.5 points on 69.9% shooting and 8.8 rebounds, being a key piece for the team at the start of the season. Ayton, who signed a two-year, $16.6 million contract in the offseason, after reaching a buyout agreement with the Portland Trail Blazers, has contributed to the Lakers having a season start with an 11-4 record, despite the injury absences of their three stars: LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Austin Reaves. Jaxson Hayes, Lakers’ substitute center, was the one who started the second half in place of Ayton.
